Anatoly Karpov

In the video “Nimzowitsch’s My System Part 2″ by GM Roman Dzindzichashvili, he delves a bit deeper into the games of Aron Nimzowitsch. Roman begins by talking about the isolated queen pawn structure and how it has some advantages and disadvantages for both the player who has the pawn and the player playing against the pawn. He also includes the ideas of Nimzowitsch and how the masters of his time evaluated the position. In the second position, we are shown a backward pawn structure that Black has. While White’s knight looks optimally placed, we are taught that we need to put it on a different square in order to attack the pawn structure better. What other ideas about pawn structures does Roman talk about? How do the principles and plans behind the pawn structures help us to understand positions better? Watch the video to find out! Throughout the video, Roman shows how Nimzowitsch evaluated certain positions, and also adds his own explanations as well. Roman's explanations help the viewer to really understand the underlying principles, criteria and reasons for the moves made by Nimzowitsch. In contrast to the variations that Nimzowitsch only used, we also get to see the thought process behind the moves played. In the first position analyzed, Roman explains how White is able to carry out a strong attack on his opponent's king. Instead of just showing us the moves that could be made, we also get to understand the criteria behind this attack and why these factors help White to know if he should attack right now or not. What are the criteria for attacking that Roman talks about? How can we figure out the plans in positions that we have in our own games? Watch the video to find out! A set-up to Crush the Pirc Modern Defense! - GM Roman Dzindzichashvili♕ DVD: http://www.onlinechesslessons.net/shop/easy-way-to-beat-the-pirc-modern-defense-gm-roman/ ♕ 10 GM SECRETS: http://www.onlinechesslessons.net/10gmsecrets/ ♕ MORE: http://www.onlinechesslessons.net/2015/02/26/beat-the-pirc-modern-defense/ http://facebook.com/chesstutor | http://twitter.com/onlinechessless In the video "Easy Way to Beat The Pirc Modern Defense" by GM Roman Dzindzichashvili, we see a way to set-up our pieces when Black plays the Pirc Modern Defense. With this set-up, we achieve a strong position that has many ways to cause Black problems. Even if Black plays solidly and doesn't make any mistakes, White is able to get a small but clear advantage with the piece set-up that we are shown. The set-up for this opening starts with e4, d4, Nf3, Nc3, h3 and Be3. Playing in this way allows for both a positional and tactical style of play. This is a very good situation for openings, because it allows the specific player to customize the opening to whichever playing style he prefers. In what ways can White play both tactically and positionally? How does he achieve a strong, centralized position in many of the variations? Watch the video to find out! This means that the opening set-up can be played no matter what Black does. The reason that White has this universal opening option is because he goes first in chess, something that Black doesn't have the luxury of doing. The universal opening that Roman describes is the King's Indian Attack. The King's Indian Attack begins with the moves Nf3, g3, Bg2, 0-0 and d3. White's plan is to continue developing, push his center pawn to e4 and begin to attack Black's kingside. This opening set-up can be achieved through many different starting moves and orders of moves by both White and Black. But the ideas, plans and resulting positions remain the same across the board. How can White avoid opening theory and achieve a strong game? What are the middlegame plans for this opening? Watch the video to find out! Interface used ICC: http://www.chessclub.com/from/WStewart/

White begins by trading his light square bishop for Black’s knight and doubling Black’s c-pawns. Next, we see how White can attack this pawn structure weakness and how it blocks in Black’s light square bishop for much of the game. In a different variation that we are shown, White is able to make use of a weak square in Black’s territory and possibly use it as an outpost for his knight. The ideas in many of these variations can transpose and be used in different types of positions. How can White switch from thinking in an attacking way to a positional way? In what ways can this surprise Black? What are the key moves for White to know when playing this opening positionally? Watch the video to find out! Fight against White's strong center with the King's Indian Defense! - GM Dzindzichashvili♕ DVD: http://www.onlinechesslessons.net/shop/the-kings-indian-defence-gm-roman/ ♕ 10 GM SECRETS: http://www.onlinechesslessons.net/10gmsecrets/ ♕ MORE: http://www.onlinechesslessons.net/2015/02/16/kings-indian-defense/ http://facebook.com/chesstutor | http://twitter.com/onlinechessless In the video “The King’s Indian Defense” by GM Roman Dzindzichashvili, we see different variations of the King’s Indian Defense opening, where White does not play e4 or g3. This means that in these variations he will be playing Bf4 or Bg5 combined with the move e3. This move reinforces White’s d4 pawn a bit more and steers the game into a bit different type of position because Black’s counterattacks in the center are not as strong anymore. Black needs to know what to do against this set-up or he may find himself lost without a plan because of the differences he is not used to. After seeing the basic set-up, we are shown some things that Black can try. This includes his attempt at chasing down White’s dark square bishop and also pawn pushes in the center of the board. These pawn pushes open lines for his pieces, specifically his dark square bishop, which is Black’s strongest piece. How can Black fight against White’s center despite White’s reinforcement? What can Black do to activate his pieces in these variations? Watch the video to find out! Interface used ICC: http://www.chessclub.com/from/WStewart/

In this variation of the Scotch opening, Black is able to build a pawn center, but White plans on attacking it and taking it down. Some of the topics discussed throughout the video include kingside pawn majorities, pawn storms, dark square blockade, trading off our opponent’s strong pieces and attacking the king. In the second half of the video there are other set-ups from the Scotch opening that are discussed in detail as well. How can White create his own strong center and push back his opponent? This game features the Nimzo-Indian, Leningrad variation middlegame! The Nimzo-Indian late middlegame seems very good for Black, and Dana proves this beyond reasonable doubt. Black will eventually pressure the weak ‘c’ file with a double or triple battery. Although Black may have to fend off some early initiative, with no weaknesses it’s clear the initiative is pointless in many Nimzo-Indians Pre-endgames.
